Trekking the World
Parent testers were blown away by this remarkable game that is brilliantly conceived and ingenious in both its execution and construction. As you might guess from the title, the game is centered around world geography, but it is much more than that. The game is loaded with fun facts, substance, exploration, and discoveries, all played on a visually appealing board as you travel vicariously around the globe. A real standout is the beautifully crafted cards of exotic world locations that introduce players to places off the beaten path. The gameplay combines a strategic and competitive approach with a healthy dose of fun and education as you globetrot through the game, collecting as many souvenirs as possible before your opponents. It does take some concerted patience to get through the voluminous rules, or you can cut the line and watch a well-done instructional video on YouTube. This is a perfect game for a small group of friends or family members. It promotes discussions and dreams (we guarantee that there will be lots of talk about where each child wants to visit and why), along with a healthy dose of inspiration and imagination. Reviewers felt this is an excellent game for young ones to play with older generations so they can hear firsthand about real-world travel adventures and experiences. The game box is nicely illustrated and inviting. It is clear what’s inside – a game centered around culture, travel, and geography. The box is a bit heavy and has a lot of pieces, so this isn’t one to take on trips (ironically). But this is a high-quality, durable game that is different every time it is played. We expect you will go back to Trekking the World repeatedly – especially with varying groups of people to learn where they’ve been or want to go. The bottom line is that this will be a great addition to any board game collection. The price of $50 is a little steep, but this one delivers so much that testers felt it justified the price. Especially since this game will inspire any child who plays to want to travel across our wonderful, wondrous world.
