Screen Time Parental Control & Monitoring
This is one of those apps that will either be a hit or a miss with parents. There is very little middle ground when it comes to how parents choose to monitor their children’s use of their devices, their location, or what they wander across on the internet. Privacy issues abound and were very apparent in the opinions expressed by our testers, some who embraced the concept and others who outright rejected it. OK, with that out of the way, if you are in the camp that believes Parental Control and Monitoring are essential for oversight, this app from Awareness Technologies should be on your radar. This screen monitoring tool is robust, intuitive, and user-friendly since often it is the kids who are more tech-savvy than the parents. The template is intuitive and doesn’t offer too many bells or whistles that can be overwhelming. Simple is best, and set up was a breeze with clear step-by-step instructions. Very easy to install and set up on both devices, yours and your child’s. It certainly allows parents to have peace of mind with what their kids are viewing and for how long, not through deception. Kids will know their parents can monitor what they are doing on their devices. That alone could act as a deterrent for excessive screen time and help avoid “unsavory” content. It is compatible across all devices and offers unique options such as ways for kids to earn extra screen time and allow parents to “pause” their child’s device. This encourages kids to be mindful and responsible for their online usage. Additionally, parents receive daily reports that show vital usage information. This can be a great teaching tool that kids and parents can discuss together. There are Geolocating options that parent testers appreciate since there is great peace of mind knowing where your child (or their device) is at any given time. NOTE: A couple of our testers learned the hard way that if you swipe Screentime away (versus minimizing it), it deletes all the apps on your device. Customer support was responsive and helped solve the problem but not before considerable moments of panic.
