Impatient Pamela Learns About Germs

Impatient Pamela Learns About Germs

Impatient Pamela is back and as impatient as ever, that is until she learns a valuable lesson. The lesson isn’t that germs are lurking everywhere and that she needs to be terrified about them. It’s that simple, everyday habits like washing her hands can help keep her safe and healthy. It is this kind of […]

Floppy Seat

Floppy Seat

Whether it’s some old, sticky substance of unknown origin or some other unseen, unsavory foreign bacteria, we never really know what we are plopping our children onto when we trek to the supermarket and grab a shopping cart. Sure the backwards facing seats are convenient and beat the heck out of carrying a child in

Home Tweet Home

Bird houses carry with it the promise of becoming home to a new family of birds, their nests, their eggs and eventually their babies. From an early age, even in pre-school, children learn about how eggs hatch and new bird families start. Perhaps that is the reason that so many testers were so excited to

My Layered Lacing

Not your average lacing toy, this rendition of the classic childhood manipulative, is designed to withstand multiple uses and, according to our testers comments, could probably be generational hand-me-downs some day. The designs are bright and appealing and the carry-along plastic bag makes it a wonderful travel toy.

In My Kitchen

Of all the make believe scenarios of early childhood, cooking and serving meals is right up there in the top three or four, if not the leader of the pack. It makes sense, at that age our favorite people (Mom & Dad) are usually the one’s serving us yummy goodies, so we want to return

EGroup Learnings Middle School Writing Course

The challenge of evaluating a writing course that to date is only offered in one area of the nation was considerable. We asked parents and teachers to evaluate the materials and curriculum of this preparatory class and give us their feedback without actually attending the class. We went to great lengths to target the right

Smart Safari: Alphabet Fun Frog

Smart Safari: Alphabet Fun Frog

It’s probably the adorable frog that attracted so many young testers to the Alphabet Fun Frog, not the educational aspect of learning the alphabet. That was just fine with parents though, you gotta reel ’em in somehow. So, this cute croaking frog spits out 26 Alphabet Bug disks, rolls along on four wheels and very

Gears! Gears! Gears! IllumaBot

Gears! Gears! Gears! IllumaBot

The Gears! Gears! Gears! line has been wowing our testers for years. The unique building design always features brightly colored gears which come together to form a variety of spinning, whirring concoctions. This time the set builds a totally cool robot. But not just any robot, this guy lights up and when he does you

Pretend & Play Snack Shop

Pretend & Play Snack Shop

The appeal of a make-believe environment, designed as storefront selling sweets and other goodies, was just too much for kids who couldn’t wait to set up shop. Parents loved watching how their children went about their business organizing both the snacks and the money. They were also impressed at how quickly the kids demonstrated an

Mindstorms NXT

Mindstorms NXT

Lego has established themselves as leaders in so many categories of creativity and ingenuity that it really is no surprise that they are now clearly THE company when it comes to introducing the science of robotics to children. The eyes of our testers lit up when they caught sight of the newest Mindstorm offering and

A Seal of Approval review involves a multi-step process conducted over an eight-week period.

Parents and children, experience and review submitted products and services either already released or coming to market.

Participants fill out questionnaires for each product or service they test. They score based on 13 levels of criteria including quality, appeal, design, price, packaging, directions, desirability, stimulation, replay factor, and more. Results are based on both statistical averaging and comments received by testers.

There are three testing periods each year:
