Souvenirs to collect on trips

Acquiring souvenirs can be a high point of the trip. Just decide on some criteria for spending money on them. Discuss beforehand what kids can and cannot buy. Establish limits and stick to them. Allocate travel money for their items but encourage them to enhance their buying power with some of their own money. Many […]

Travel games

Travel games

There are many favorite games which require no equipment and are perfect for passing the time in many situations, especially in the car. These listed don’t work for children under the ages of 2 or 3. For the very young, hand games, music, identifying objects by color and rotating toys work best. Once children are

Sun protection for kids

Start your child very young on a lifetime of protective skin care. While being outdoors is healthy and necessary, too much exposure to direct sun is not. • Keep a baby under a year old out of the hot summer sun altogether, if you can. Dress him or her in lightweight, light-colored clothing and, always

Left-Handers

Left-Handers

In Grandma’s day it wasn’t unusual to hear that the right hand was the “angel’s hand” and the left, the “devil’s hand”. Few people today are so thoughtless, but right-handed parents might look closely at such tools as ladles, butter knives and can openers and even certain toys before they label left-handed children awkward. Books for Girls

The American Girls Collection For children 7 and up. Working with historians and curators at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, Valerie Tripp has added the story of “Felicity: An American Girl” to Pleasant Company’s historical series on American girls. The first nine books, published in 1986, drew enthusiastic response for their sympathetic and realistic rendering of

When Your Toddler Doesn't Share Toys

Toddlers often become upset when other children play with their toys. They see possession as ownership. They don’t understand the concept of sharing until three or four years of age. But you can plant the idea with statements, such as “If you share with them, they’ll share with you.” Try this approach: • First, if

Bedtime Refusals

Bedtime Refusals

Does your child refuse to go to bed or to stay in the bedroom? Does he prolong the bedtime interaction with never ending questions, unreasonable requests, protests, and tantrums? If so, you’re dealing with bedtime refusal, a common way for young children to postpone bedtime and stay up with you. To deal with this delaying

Biting

Biting

I have yet to figure to how to “get” a child to outgrow anything. They seem to do it on their own timetable. Between 2 and 3 biting, unfortunately, is a common occurrence because children lack the verbal skills to convey their feelings. Biting gets an immediate effect. While vigilance must be your main response,

Nutrition

Nutrition

Most babies begin eating table foods at around 1 year of age. However, it is important that they eat the right table foods. Remember that it is less important that your child eats all the right things than that he doesn’t eat too much of the wrong things. A varied diet offering foods from each

Not Saying "I'm Sorry" and Saying "No"

Children at two years of age are egocentric, and you can’t teach them to say “I’m sorry” or not to say “No.” They are practicing their newly discovered independence. They don’t call them the “Terrible Twos” for nothing! It’s important to monitor toddlers’ play, and be one step ahead with things to keep them busy

HOW IT WORKS

A Seal of Approval review involves a multi-step process conducted over an eight-week period.

Parents and children, experience and review submitted products and services either already released or coming to market.

Participants fill out questionnaires for each product or service they test. They score based on 13 levels of criteria including quality, appeal, design, price, packaging, directions, desirability, stimulation, replay factor, and more. Results are based on both statistical averaging and comments received by testers.

There are three testing periods each year:

FALL ’24 June 1st June 24th July 31st August 15th
