Making Punishment Fit The Crime

It’s important to look upon punishment as corrective, not retaliatory. You want to educate your child, not get even with him or her. • The form of punishment should be appropriate for a child’s age and behavior. For example, many feel that a child over a certain age (perhaps seven or eight) should never be […]

Encouraging Reading

Encouraging Reading

Don’t waste your time lecturing your child on the importance of reading; it will probably fall on deaf ears. Let a child see you reading and writing for the practical reasons, as well as for pleasure. • You can encourage reading however, by encouraging your child to read at least one chapter of a book

Car Pooling

Car Pooling

Car pooling is an economical and timesaving way to get children to all the places they have to go. Each Fall, it’s wise to organize a new car pool carefully, drawing up schedules for driving, and making arrangements for substitutes when necessary. Safety should always be emphasized. A good car pool doesn’t include more children

Hot Dogs

Hot Dogs

Hot dogs have been under attack because of their inclusion of sodium nitrites, a questionable additive that’s also used in many luncheon meats, ham, and other cured meat products. This additive prevents botulism, food poisoning, and gives a reddish color to the products it’s used in. • Nitrites in large doses can be toxic, but

Dealing With An Early Riser

Older babies and toddlers are often early wakers, and, unfortunately for parents who are slow starters, the children are usually bright-eyed, full of conversation, and raring to go. Or worse, some wake up cross and irritable. Parents who like to sleep a bit later than their children often take turns getting up early, so at

Dealing With Separation Anxiety

Separation anxiety, the fear that an infant experiences when he is away from a mother or a primary caretaker, usually begins at around six or eight months and peaks at about a year and a half. It’s a normal part of development that your child recognizes his own being and that of others. In fact,

Sharing Bed With Your Baby

One way to help everyone in the house to get a good night sleep is simply take your baby into your bed. Some parents choose this as their regular routine; others use it only when a child is wakeful. They either let the child spend the rest of the night in their bed or they

Picking Party Games & Activities

Unless you work with Pre-School on a regular basis, what will be newest for you is organizing and entertaining small children. It’s not tricky or hard, but it does take preplanning. You will need your own game plan to be written out as well as thought out. Find a party book with game ideas. Ask

If Your Child Threatens to Run Away

There are two schools of thought about handling the child who threatens to run away from home. “Okay, I’ll help you pack your things” is one approach, and “Oh no, I love you too much to let you go” is the other. Now both have worked for many children, and one might be right for

Bedtime Routines

Bedtime Routines

I’ll bet you used a bedtime routine or ritual to help your baby get to sleep, a cuddle in a rocking chair, a lullaby, perhaps a gentle back rub. Well don’t give up this lovely practice just because you think your child has outgrown it. Just a few minutes together every night can give you

HOW IT WORKS

A Seal of Approval review involves a multi-step process conducted over an eight-week period.

Parents and children, experience and review submitted products and services either already released or coming to market.

Participants fill out questionnaires for each product or service they test. They score based on 13 levels of criteria including quality, appeal, design, price, packaging, directions, desirability, stimulation, replay factor, and more. Results are based on both statistical averaging and comments received by testers.

There are three testing periods each year:

Report Period Testing Begins Submission Deadline Testing Ends Report Issued

FALL ’24 June 1st June 24th July 31st August 15th
HOLIDAY ’24 September 1st September 24th October 31st November 15th
