Doodlematic is a new technology and toy that first intrigued testers and then wowed them. The whole concept behind Doodlematic is to introduce kids (and their parents) to the experience and process behind the making of a video game. The learning curve seems a little daunting at first, but by following the very clear directions that walk you through the step-by-step process, you will get the hang of it. In relatively short order, you’ll quickly find yourself creating your first “game.” Your first attempt will probably be a maze, but soon enough, kids wanted to dig deeper, and the booklet helps them do just that. Kids start creating characters and defining their roles within the game. Who is the avatar, what is the goal, who are the enemies, what are hazards, etc.? Soon enough, they are creating their own scenes that they then turn into a live game once they scan it into the app. Parents loved that the game inspires creativity, is fun, and focuses heavily on problem-solving. One really cool feature is that children can share their games, and can also play games that other kids have created. This is just the first step into the world of game design, but seeing how children “got it” so quickly and started expanding on their designs right away really blew parents away. They also appreciated that you dont have to buy special paper or pens, you can use any brand of marker.
