Imagine That: The Sesame Street Music of Joe Raposo & Jeff Moss
Imagine That, performed by Rena Strober and Friends, is a beautiful compilation of songs from Sesame Street that you and your child will love listening to, both for its joyful melodies and its touching sense of heart. The album features a great range of music by presenting songs with varying tempos, the fullness of sound, varied voices, and a wide array of instruments like flute, piano, cello, fiddle, etc. Testers singled out the song “What Makes Music” for how it teaches children that they can create music out of anything around them and encourages them to use their imagination and create music themselves. Aside from the great music, performers constantly speak to listeners, asking them questions, and inviting them to sing along, making the listening experience more active than passive. Perhaps what is most impressive about the album is its discussion of blindness. DOTZ, the blind children’s choir, is featured heavily on the album, along with a track that briefly discusses braille, guide dogs, and white canes as tools for those who cannot rely on their vision to see. The album not only exposes its listeners to how the blind overcome these challenges but reinforces the idea that this condition does not stop them from doing anything; it merely requires them to do things a little differently than most. It gives parents an opportunity to discuss blindness and helps widen their children’s worldview while also enjoying and appreciating the beautiful voices and passion behind the music. This beautiful CD teaches compassion, kindness, and respect for all. Bravo!
