Have you been searching for a new and fun way to teach children about energy efficiency? OK, maybe it wasn’t on the top of your game list, but perhaps it should be! The fact is that it is our kids who are most affected by the actions we take today to change our world. PowerHaus teaches children about the small steps that can be taken to reduce energy waste in our homes and beyond. It is a sophisticated and thought-provoking experience to be sure. Kids enjoyed playing with pretend money, buying energy-efficient appliances, counting the money they need to pay, and what they are earning at every turn. Parents loved the added bonus of all the built-in math lessons! Players will learn about habits that are better for their wallet and the world. The setup is simple, and the design of the board and cards are fun and engaging. There is also a great online video that we recommend; it nicely illustrates how the game is played. The educational value of this game is terrific and lasts long past the time you spend playing. Other lessons include understanding the proper and improper use of energy, the ecological effects of energy savings, what is and where does renewable energy comes from, and much more. Our testers pegged the best age to start at was somewhere around nine, which was an age where most believed that kids were ready to learn and absorb these critical lessons.

HOW IT WORKS

A Seal of Approval review involves a multi-step process conducted over an eight-week period.

Parents and children, experience and review submitted products and services either already released or coming to market.

Participants fill out questionnaires for each product or service they test. They score based on 13 levels of criteria including quality, appeal, design, price, packaging, directions, desirability, stimulation, replay factor and more. Results are based on both statistical averaging and comments received by testers.

There are three testing periods each year:

Each submission must be accompanied by a $295 product testing fee (we offer multiple submission discounts). This fee covers the cost of testing, nothing more. It is non-refundable and has no bearing on the result of the testing. Additionally, we require three samples of the product or access codes for online submissions.
