Stitch & Style Pouches
The Klutz Stitch & Style Pouches can fit right in the wheelhouse of any creative child. The appeal starts with the packaging. It’s bright, colorful, and loaded with photos of cute pouch possibilities. The instructions are superb, clear and thorough. We have seen and tested many children’s craft projects that are completed in minutes, perhaps because that’s what manufacturers think of today’s kids’ attention spans (and they might be right). Making these pouches however requires a lot of steps to complete and will take more time. Still with us? Good! To create, you need to pop out the patterns, trace onto felt, cut out, sew each piece on, sew in a zipper, and sew the front and back together. Like we said, this is probably not a single session craft. What sets this craft kit apart is the fact that it includes real sewing needles and zippers. That’s why the suggested age of 8 years old is spot on. This is a great skill to develop and the kit provides ways to learn a few variations. Parental supervision is definitely required as the needles are sharp and threading a needle takes a steady hand. The pouches include zippers which makes the finished pouch more functional and the sewing even more of a challenge. Parents told us that they felt it was important for children to invest time in creating something special which then develops a sense of pride when it’s finally done. Note from parents: you may have the materials spread out in the workspace for days at a time. So choose wisely where your child sets up!
